The thoughts of tuning a car comes with a host of questions about the process. We chosen some of the most popular questions which we are asked about at Bark Brothers Tuning. If you have any additional questions or can’t find the answer, please contact us here.
Each custom tune is based upon the vehicle at hand. Some ECUs are more complex than others, each car has different mods, locations, etc., but it’s safe to say that our tunes start at $675. We can give you an exact quote once we know your details. 50% of the cost of the tune is paid at the time of order and 50% is paid at delivery. If we are traveling to you location to install or clone the ECU, we will include that in the quote as well.
No, you really do not need any mods for a tune. A stock engine does have its limitations and adding performance modifications can enhance the engine capabilities.
Our goal is a three business day turnaround once we receive your ECU. We’ll update you if we anticipate any delays.
If it runs on gas or diesel and has an engine control module, we can probably tune it! Cars, trucks, Jetski, motorcycles, outboard boat motors, tractors, and more. Give us a call and let us know what you have!
That depends on several factors. Since our tunes are customized for each vehicle, initially we will consult with the vehicle owner to see what their goals are for the vehicle. Each stock vehicle’s ECU has limitations. If it’s more top end that you want, quicker off the line, or better fuel economy, we’ll look at your components, make recommendations as necessary and work within your budget to achieve those goals. Just because you have a tune and your friend does, the two cars may still perform differently. Tuning is customized to the owner and their car.
We require that your vehicle be free from any malfunctions prior to a tune. The light may be triggered by detecting one, or range of issues, from minor to serious, with the engine or transmission.
If after you have installed our tune to your ECU or TCU and you get a check engine light, we will ask you to perform datalogging to help us resolve the issue.
Modifying an ECU or TCU leaves a traceable or logged change. You won’t be able to fool your dealer as changes to the ECU will be detected, even if those changes are reverted. So yes, a custom tune will void your manufacturer’s warranty.
While we don’t provide a warranty, if there is an issue, we’ll ask you to provide data logs so that we can address the problem, determine if it is related to the tune, and adjust if necessary.
Chipboxes and tuning chips are usually plug and play. They are usually not customizable so the gains you may achieve are based upon the capabilities the box comes with. You won’t be able to “tune” the box. Most chipboxes do not affect the ecu the same as a custom tune which actually modifies the ecu. You can tweak a tune to optimize your performance, but you can not change the factory box settings.
A chipbox may be a good option if your car is still under warranty, however, you should always check with your dealer to see if a chipbox may void your warranty. If you are looking for a chipbox, we distribute Seletron Chipboxes!
